Turkey Loaf

  • small onion finely chopped

  • 20 oz extra-lean ground turkey

  • 2 large egg whites or egg substitute equal to 1 1/2 eggs

  • 1/2 - 1 tsp Italian seasoning (home made blend if possible)

  • 1/4 tsp Red pepper flakes (optional)

  • 1/2 cup apple sauce (unsweetened)

  • 1/2 cup dry unseasoned bread crumbs

  • 1/2 tsp salt (omit if bread crumbs are seasoned)

  • 2 Tbsp Grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 cup spaghetti sauce, no salt added (for topping loaves) OPTIONAL

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F

  2. Coat 9x9 baking dish with cooking spray

  3. In a medium bowl , combine all ingredients EXCEPT - Spaghetti Sauce

  4. Best to use hands to mix (Wash them first)

  5. Form mixture into 4 equal sized personal loaves and arrange in the baking dish.

  6. Pour spaghetti sauce over top

  7. Place in over and set timer for 60 minutes.

  8. (Can also make into meatballs but bake for only 15 minutes with no sauce)

  9. for larger loaf - Double recipe and bake for 90 minutes in standard or large loaf pan

I have tried a similar recipe. I think everyone should try turkey loaf. You would be surprised at how good it can taste seasoned to your liking - just the way mom used to make!
