Artificial Heart Valve Surgery

Most commonly a heart valve surgery involves the mitral valve. However, the other valves that may need to be repaired are the aortic, pulmonic and tricuspid. The type of valve surgery will vary depending on the type of problems your heart valve has. Valve surgeries include the following: • Annuloplasty – If the tissue around your valve is too loose, the surgeon may perform an annuloplasty surgery that tightens this area. • Commissurotomy – In this heart surgery, the surgeon cuts portions of the valve structure and removes scar tissue and calcium deposits. • Valve leaflet repair
