Angioplasty and Stenting

This surgical procedure (also called percutaneous coronary intervention or PCI) opens clogged arteries by widening the restricted area. A surgeon temporarily inserts a tiny balloon in the clogged artery and inflates it. This stretches out the artery to make way for greater blood flow. Frequently, a stent or small tube is inserted in the area as well to keep the artery from narrowing again.
