Hello I am new here. I had a heart attack almost 15 yrs ago come July, and I am desperately trying to quit smoking and I have diabetes and COPD and live with a smoker and is no help. I am on bupropion hcl to help me quit. I makes me sick to my stomach when I smoke sometimes and there are times I realize I skip it to smoke. I tryed the patch but it didn't help. I go back to my doctor on Friday and I wanted some other suggestions to talk to him about. I am also on Diabetic medications also. I want to quit, I have 2 beautiful grandkids I want to watch grow up. Any suggestions?

HI jansjop, nice to meet you. This is a good question, about a struggle that you share with many, many people. I am a therapist, not a physician, but I have worked with many clients who were struggling with quitting smoking. You might want to talk to your doctor about the side effects of the medication, and see if they will potentially fade over time, a question to ask. Also, were you using the correct dosage of the patch? Another thing to ask your doctor about. But I have found that people do better with their quit when they are in some kind of support group, getting help and helping others who are also quitting. Have you looked into something like that? I am not a smoker but, believe me, I understand how difficult it is. I am glad to hear you really want to do this, and a strong intention is the first step. I hope you will keep in touch with us and let us know how you are doing. You can do it!
