I have been so tired lately and forgetful and my hands feel numb. Recently, they did bloodwork because I am on lasix. I got a call that my magnesium is 1.7. Doc is out of town due to a death in the family. Thinking of calling my osteopath. I read where low magensium is related to all my symtoms. Defib doc put me on mag oxide. It only bumped it up one point from 1.6 to 1.7. Idk. Just real tired of being tired. Any thoughts?

Maja,

Yes, get off the mag oxide and onto some other form of magnesium, Mag Oxide is the most poorly absorbed form!

You told me before what was good but I can't find that post. Called the doc office but he had a death in the family. The office said they will call Mon said the mag oxide took it up to 1.7 they said it is within normal rates. I said I read over the weekend and magnesium is to be between 1.5 and 2.5 I said I think 1.7 is the low end of the stick. I said doc says he does not know why I am so tired. I said I googled it and it says low mag means numbness tiredness and forgetfulness. I did not say this but I am thnking that and we pay these docs big money and for what? Sorry to be a bit short but doesn't it make you wonder? I know they aren't god but some of this with me googling is only common sense…

Maja,

The fact is if you do the math most docs can only afford to invest a maximum of 60 minutes per patient per year. So what they they do is practice what amounts to one size fits all medicine.

Unfortunately we are all different. What may work for one may not work at all for another or may even make them worse. Each of us has to pick up the slack to customize our health practices. That means studying, joining grousp like ours and always questioning.

I was in your boat and found that there are many reasons for tiredness.

  1. I had my thyroid checked and sure enough there was a problem which I corrected with thyoid hormine supplementation - but I was still tired.

  2. I got myself tested for high blood sugar and there it was. My doc didn't even believe it because my fasting blood sugar was noirmal. It only goes up right after I eat carbs so I went low-carb. It worked great but I was STILL tired.

  3. I did a battery of functional medicine tests and found I had a high burden of toxic heavy metals so I did chelation therapy to reduce it. But, I was still tired.

  4. I saw a rheumatologist who did extensive auto-immune and other rheumatic tests but found nothing.

  5. I know I am anemic and that woudlalso account for tiredness.

  6. I also saw a therapist because depression can cause tiredness but that ended up being a waste of time.

But, all that aside, when I exercise I am wide awake. Sometimes so wide awake I get to bed late (which, of course, makes me tired, lol). Sometimes, I am so tired I don't thing I can exercise for 30 secionds much less 30-45 minutes but I do anyway and feel great. My best night is when I play basketball from 7-9PM then go out with my buddies for a drink!

If you ask me, exercise is the key. Push yourself even when really tired (after getting cleared by your doc). That combined with a wheat-free, low-carb diet is what works for me.

Thanks for your thoughts! Sometimes I get frustrated…seems like I take these meds and nothing gets better. I have an echo tomorrow and a cardiologist appt Thurs. I will let you know what happens. Glad school is over for my son this Fri. Looking forward to sleeping in over the summer. Tired of being tired. I don't like being home on disability. I use to be a exec secretary I loved doing customer svs. And helping people. I miss having a purpose. Cardiologist and hematologist will say I can work part time and lift five lbs. Thing is what can I do where I can only live five lbs? Before I got sick and I was unemployed I put out 200 resumes for secretarial work I got one hit. Idk. Thanks for letting me vent. I am now off my coumadan I go June 18 for bloodwork and then for a doppler to see if the clots are still in my arm. I don't know what to think because I thought I heard on tv that two months you are off the meds that the clots come back. Do you know anything about this? Well it is pretty hot here in PA this Memorial Day. I am going to go and see if I can find a cool spot. Hope you are enjoying your Memorial Day with your family. And remembering and thanking our vets for our freedom. Take Care. Thanks for your thoughts!

Maja,

Five pounds or 500 it all has to start somewhere. Heck, there are people who cannot even raise their arm! As far as purpose start thinking about self-employment. What do you like to do and what are you capable of doing well no matter how "off the wall" it is! In fact, the more unusual it is the better your chance is of standing out in a crowd. And forget about the money. Just like lifting weights whether you make 5 cents or 5 million it all about starting somewhere.

One thing is for certain. If you don't lift 5 pounds you will never lift 500. If you don't make 5 cents you will never make a million!
