After having heart surgery has anyone else had other issues with there heart that they didnt have before there surgery. I had my aortic valve repaired last year in novembet. December 2nd I had my valve replaced. My valve is working near perfectly. My other valves however are now leaking and I have cardiomyopathy. Im probally just freaking myself out but after two surgeries and almost dying both times im kinda just scared. I just want to start school and not have to worry about anything else. I hope everyone had a pleasent new years and is doing well.

Hello openhearts1110, So sorry that your so worried about this other surgery. I too had a procedure done this past December. Was told that I had 65-75% blockage in the left valve to my heart. When I woke up I was informed that they (Doctors) were able to thin out the blockage with the balloon. I too was so affraid that I was in serious trouble. I was able to come home within 24 hours and learn to make new changes in my life. I now beleave that it is to our best interest to have these proceedures done as soon as we are able. May God shine his love, healing powers on you. I will keep you in my prayers. Shoulder Cynthia

Hi HH, Nice to hear from you also. Yes its been a long month and some recovery time still going on. Still I get a little emotional at times, but still trying to get strong again. Have to make several changes in my life, makes one think about whats really important in their life. Adding blood thinners to my meds. And changes to my diet also. One thing that really keeps me upset is not having the desire and the strength to do all that I was doing before the procedure. Now I fill so old and tired. The Doctor says its not uncomman to be depressed. Hope that all went well for you and your family for the holidays. How did your grandson react to Christmas? Did he see Santa Clause? Take care of yourself, and keep setting that bar high for all of us new patients! Shoulders

Hey, Happy New Year, I missed this post! You are right on the money regarding depression. Seems like I fight it every day. I have tried taking meds for it (SSRI's like Prozac and the rest) but I just didn't feel like me. The bottom line is that I'd rather take the ups and downs and feel alive than live with the steady and almost emotionless state the drugs create.

Fortunately (although not everyone agrees), I am a little bipolar so there are a few highs as well, lol!

I think a lot of people would be interested in understanding how surgical scars are handled. Let us know how you and your docs deal with it.

sorry to see you having issues with your valve. i can see why you would be scared after almost dying 2 times. i would be scared too. its good to vent what your feeling cause other people that feel this way can support you and you can support them and makes those scary feelings easier to deal with.

This is a great question and encourage others to chime in with their experience. I have not had such surgeries so I have less to offer in this area. Yeah, it IS scary but fortunately such heart surgeries are what current heart medicine is really good at.

Hang in there and work with your docs and let's see what the rest of the community can offer.
