My 5 year old daughter has high cholesterol we been struggling with it since she was 2. She is not over weight and does not eat terrible food does anyone have any ideas on how to lower it. She wad on medication but the Dr took her off trying diet alone now. It is very hard to keep a 5 year old on a diet does anyone. Have any good low fat recipes she may be interested in?

Sounds like your daughter may have familial hypercholesteremia which is passed on genetically. ANyone in your or the father's family have high cholesterol? How di you discover your daughter's condition?

As far as diet I would have your doc test her Apo-E gene type. If it is E2 she should probably avoid carbs. If she is E4 then fats may be problematic. Also, push your doc for an NMR Lipoprofile from LipoScience to more accurately define her exact cholesterol abnormality. This will guide the most effective treatment.
