Tip of the Week: Depression meds may elevate bleeding risk

Having heart disease can cause depression and depression has been shown to worsen heart diseaese. Those who recognize this are wise to seek treatment. However, many modern depression drugs are of a class known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) like Prozac.

Unfortunately, this class of drug may increase bleeding risk especially if you are already on an anti-platelet med like Plavix. You can read more about it here:


Make certain you discuss this drug interaction with your doc. Anyone here taking both an anti-platelet drug like Plavix as well as an anti-depressant? If so, how has it affected you and what has your doc said?
