I just read an article theat claims that several statin manufacturers are seeking to make statins available "over the counter" (OTC) without a prescription. Lipitor, Mevacorm and Pravachol were all mentioned. Here is the article.
The argument for making this change is that consumers could adequately understand and follow labeling just like taking any other OTC drug. It was noted that at least one statin is available without a prescription in England.
What do you think of this idea?
