1) use black pepper, herbs, and spices instead of salt. 2) Buy fresh, frozen, or no-salt added vegetables. 3) Buy fresh poulty, fish. and meats instead of canned or processed meats. 4) Cook rice, pasta and hot cereal without salt. 5) Rinse canned foods, such as tuna, and beans, before eating to reduce the sodium content. Any other suggestions on how to lower your bp and your sodium intake?

Thanks for the tips and the eatlowsodium website. I have never liked salt (as far as adding extra salt when cooking or to my food before eating, etc.). However, I realize that almost everything, especially processed foods, have high sodium levels. I am trying to watch my sodium intake and keep my bp down.

great advice! I see more and more companies are offering reduced sodium products on the shelves in the Grocery store.. Mom complains that it "doesn't taste right w/o salt" but give it a little time and you wont miss it at all!

More good advice! I would watch out for any processed, boxed or canned products especially soups and broth. Even the low-sodium brands can have quite a bit. It is added to "spipce up" flavor but other non-sodium spices you recommend due the same job.

As as lowing BP I have found that fish oil and exercise dramatically lower my BP by 20 points. When I stop it goes up and when I start it goes right back down. I guess my body is telling me somethng!
