Just brought my husband home today from hospital. Re cooperating from triple heart bypass surgery Monday, trying to find a diet he'll actually eat. Lettuce and vegies.. forget it.
He had a heart murmur that our reg. MD thought was getting louder. Further investigation found 3 blocked arteries.{blood veins that supply blood to the heart muscle itself}. He's 63 yrs old. And it was all inheritated from his dads side of the family.
Although its pricey I'm going to buy up buffalo meat and start him on the "fins or feathers" diet slowly.

calico,

I would look into a book called the "Apo E Gene Diet." It matches your diet to your genotype. According to the book, a low fat may not be the best diet for everyone. Check out this video

The really useful stuff starts a about the 4-minute mark.

I have matched my diet (the Track Your Plaque diet) to my Apo E type (I am ApoE2/3, the video explains this) and the results have been nothing short of remarkable. I USED to be on a low-fat diet (I was a Dr. Dean Ornish follower before I found Dr. William R. Davis) and am now low-carb and will likely never go back!

Whatever you do, always consult with your doc before making ANY dramatic health change like a wholesale change in diet!
