We are all familiar with the risks imposed by high blood pressure. But with all the recent discussion about mitral valve problems it is important to know that high pulmonary blood pressure is a major factor in outcomes to repair mitral regurgitation. This link below details a study that looked at outcomes for mitral valve surgery at different pulmonary BPs. Anything above 40 mmHg imposed a much greater risk that increased with BP.

Are you currently considering a mitral valve repair? Do your know your pulmonary BP? It can be tested with an echocardiogram. Has your doctor discussed it with you?
