One of our community members cited vision problems after a heart attack. Both temporary and permanent vision problems (such as macular degenration) and even blindness have been associated with heart disease and heart attack. What is your experience? What is temporary or permanent? What did your doctors tell you about it?

I was just diagnosed with dilated cardio myopathy and yes I do notice the blurry vision and seeing far away. I know this could be due to my A1C how does my heart affect my vision? Still learning…series of doc appts this week. Maybe I will learn more.

Maja,

Please do report back on what yout doc says. We all have much to learn from individual experiences.

When this first started I thought it had something to do with my A1C and then my osteopath said give yourself time to adjust to the meds. Ok so that was from 8/30. So that time has passed and now they both feel I need to see a eye doc. It has gotten some better so not sure if it is the adjustment period to the meds or what. Now the site feels that eye problems could be heart problems? I just had an eye exam and got new glasses less then a year ago. My glasses cost me 600 or more. I can't afford to do this every year. Please also tell me why my profile thingy has a red one by it? I think there is a message there but don't know how to access it. Thanks!

Maja,

The red dot with a number in it tells you how many discussions you are following. Regarding eyesite, diabetes can definite cause retinopathy and cataracts. I am not a doc but I do not believe heart problems are causing the eye problems. It is more likely that the same things that are causing eye problems (like diabetes) may also create heart problems. Only the docs can say for sure.

I went to the eye Dr. yesterday and he said, I had a little cholesterol build up in the veins in my left eye not enough to cause any problems though. dry eye ,astigmatism, and I was not focusing and/or focusing slowly, that in general my eyes were in good condition for my age, this was the diagnoses, He could not verify that it was heart related, so, I will get glasses to help in focusing.
