I quit smoking (2 pks/day x 20y) on JAN 22, 1976. Best thing I ever did. But even today, am hounded by emphysema and COPD. I use spireva inhaler qd and albuterol inhalers as needed. No one smokes in my car or house, and thankfully all restaurants and businesses in Traverse City are smoke free.
I still use an inhaler before engaging in any physical activity. For example, had to stop about every 15 feet pulling my dumpster out to the road, just to catch my breath (thankfully, no chest pain). I also use my inhaler before taking a shower.
My PCP is aware. Anyone have any other suggestions about improving breathing capacity, other than frequent coughing and deep breathing?
